Restaurants / Watering Holes
The Taos near Valley has many excellent restaurants. There are also many fun and vibrant taverns. I spend more time in the former than the latter these days, but if I were traveling I’d want to know where a long time local likes to eat and drink. Following are some of my favorites but by no means a comprehensive list.

New Mexican Cuisine

Orlando's 751-1450. Try the red chile enchies with a cold Pacifico or their new location on the southside
Abe’s in Seco 776-8516 Lena’s food is a great reason to go to Arroyo Seco for lunch
Mexican Cuisine
Guadalajara Grill North 737-0816 South 751-0063 Just about everything is good. The
fish tacos will make you think of Mexico or Belize.
Antonio’s 751-4800 Mexican food like you get in Mexico

Out Back 758-3112 Awesome pies and killer salads. A slice and a salad will fill you up.
Pizanos 776-1050 Pizza on the northside. Former easterners swear this is as close to NY
pizza that you can find in Taos.

Fancy Food
Ranchos Trading Post 758-5089 good menu and great deserts. The chicken soup is a meal
in itself.
Doc Martin’s (Taos Inn) 758-1977 Most welcoming bar in town but not the cheapest. Margaritas are a specialty.
The restaurant has a varied menu with eclectic ingredients. Good breakfast meeting place.
Sabroso 776-3333. Perfect dinner stop on the way home from TSV. Great outdoor patio in the summer.
Lambert’s 758-1009 If you want lamb this is your place. Comfy bar.
The Love Apple 751-0050 My wife finally got me to go and I love it.
El Meze 751-3337 Ambience and more on the near northside.

A little of this and that
Michael’s Kitchen 758-4178 a lot of people think breakfast but I think Green Chile
El Taoseno- 758-4142 another excellent Green Chile Cheeseburger can be had here.
Sugar’s  on the Rio Grande between Taos and Velarde. if you’re going by at lunch time
it’s time for a Green Chile Cheeseburger.
St. Bernard Deck 776-2251 – I’d have the Green Chile Cheeseburger. Stop in below after
skiing and have a drink with the gracefully aging bartenders.
Hunan 751-0474 Chinese dine in/ takeout. Fresh veggies make their dishes shine.
Taos Cow 776-5640 Homemade ice cream in Arroyo Seco.  Need I say more.

Neat stuff to do in Taos
There are lots of things to do especially outdoors in Taos. Hiking ,biking, skiing, white water rafting and golf just to mention a few. Hunting and fishing are big with the locals. There are also lots of places to visit and view art, jewelry, theatre, drop dead gorgeous scenery and birds and animals. Some summers the bears come to town and you don’t even have to seek them out. The Taos Valley has too many cultural learning opportunities to mention, but if you miss Taos Pueblo you’ve missed the point. So I was going to list businesses doing all these things but you’re just as good as I am with the yellow pages and Google so have at it. However, I am an obsessed fly fisherman… so here are the two shops I do my fly business with.

Tailwater Gallery and Flyshop – 758-5653. They know what and where the trout are
biting. Personable and experienced guides.
Beautiful fishing/river art and more
Taos Flyshop 751-1312 Home of the “pound meister” Nick Streit is a second generation
flyfishing guide, so if you’ve fished with the legendary Taylor
who guides a lot in the Chama area these days you can now hire
his son, the updated, faster moving version of Streit.
